DAMOLA DAVIS – The Rising British-Nigerian Afropop Star That Is Spreading Enjoyment With His New Banger ‘Ijoya’

The year is almost over — but rising Afrobeats star Damola Davis proves there’s still more to look forward to this year. The Nigerian-born UK-based musician is back with his latest single, ‘Ijoya’.
Exploiting the familiar rich sounds of Afrobeats, Damola Davis oozes a familiar confidence, encouraging dance and enjoyment, with his intentions evident from the first line of the catchy chorus. Taking a dive into his cultural heritage, ‘Ijoya’ was crafted in collaboration with burgeoning producer Vikwynbeatz. An addictive fusion of Afro sounds packed in punches from the get-go, with Damola’s silky playful voice soaking into the melody.
Speaking on ‘Ijoya’, Damola said: “Ijoya is a Yoruba phrase which means “Time to Dance” or “Let’s Dance”. It is a danceable and relatable song that spreads a message of happiness and celebration, regardless of what life throws at you”.
Damola Davis is no stranger to creating hot slappers, judging by last year’s antics; Leading up to the release of his third EP “What If I Kissed You?” released in July 2022, Damola Davis released hot new single titled “Don Dada”, which featured Afropop superstar L.A.X, and was widely supported by fans and tastemakers alike, and featured on mainstream radio stations.

Damola Davis, born Adedamola Ogundipe, rose to prominence during his time living in Ibadan, Nigeria. In 2009, he joined X-element music group. Fast forwarding a couple of years he moved to the UK where he established and transformed his sound, then decided to continue as a solo artist, and has since been able to work with the likes of other prominent Afrobeats musicians LAX, Damibliz, Baseone, Rotimo to name a few. In 2020, Damola Davis released “Vacationship”, which was rated “fire” by 4x Grammy Award winning executive record producer Anthony Kilhoffer (credits- Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, to name a few) on his A&R Live session on Instagram with Music and Entertainment heavyweight Bankuli (Good Music).
Damola has gone on to release 2 EPs and a plethora of bangers since then. In 2021, Damola Davis started and ended the year with releases such as ‘Oshomo’, ‘Dinner’, Godzillian Dance’, and self acclaimed EP titled ‘The True Godzilla’. Upon release, Godzillian Dance skyrocketed onto several charts including claiming the number 1 spot on iTunes Nigeria.
In February 2022, Damola Davis headlined his first sold out show ‘A Night With Damola Davis’ at Smade Lounge, which has set him on an unstoppable path from here onwards. Damola followed on the momentum in March 2022 with “Don Dada” which featured Afro-pop royalty L.A.X, which was well received and amassed thousands of streams on all platforms.
Leading up to the release of his third EP “What If I Kissed You?” released in July 2022, Damola Davis released a hot new single titled “Gbese”, which was widely supported by fans and tastemakers alike, and featured on mainstream radio stations including BBC Radio London, Capital Xtra, BBC 1xtra, to name a few. In 2023, Damola Davis headlined his second sold out show “A Night With Damola Davis” at Off The Cuff London. He also released 2 singles “Jijo Mi” and “Mona Lisa”, both of which have been well received by fans and tastemakers.
