With more female singers making a noticeable impact in the Nigerian music industry, fast-rising US-based Hiphop & Afro-fusion singer, Ijeoma Ononobi, better known as Ijekimora, has joined the league of Nigerian female music acts to watch out for.
Born in Nigeria but raised in Dallas Texas, Ijekimora exudes a boldness and sexual vibe that will have you thinking about ‘Nicki Minaj if Nicki she was African’ as she boldly promotes the concept of feminine prowess. Her love for the hiphop culture is reflected in her musical approach and demeanour, which carries a punch of introspection as she speaks in various native languages.
From childhood adventure of singing, Kimora hopes that she would continue to use her music to create a fierce femme force that would yield a positive impact on women.
After a sturdy run in the American media space, where she nurtured a career as a broadcaster, Ijekimora decided to return to Nigeria to hone her Afro sounds, as her producers abroad weren’t connecting with that side of her music. Now in Nigeria, she hopes to become “a household name where other artists will be inspired to create music and to influence people to take risks and try new things with their music or style.”
