Tupac Shakur’s Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Rapper’s Killing

Nearly three decades after the fatal shooting of Tupac Shakur on the Las Vegas Strip in 1996, new legal efforts are aiming to uncover whether more people were involved in the crime.

The case remained unsolved for years until 2023, when Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis was arrested in connection with the killing. Now, fresh developments suggest the story may be far from complete.

On Tuesday, lawyers representing Maurice Shakur filed a wrongful death lawsuit, alleging the possibility of a broader and more intricate plot behind the rapper’s death—one that may go beyond a simple act of retaliation.

According to the complaint, many individuals believed to have been involved have either died or remain difficult to identify. Still, the filing insists that some participants have evaded accountability for nearly 30 years.

The lawsuit seeks both answers and justice, naming 99 unidentified co-conspirators in an effort to shed more light on what may have been a larger coordinated effort.

Meanwhile, Davis—who has pleaded not guilty—remains the only person charged so far. His trial is scheduled to begin in August, where he faces counts including murder with the use of a deadly weapon and alleged ties to gang-related activity.
